First Impression: Ichiban Suki no Hana (2023)

I honestly forgot why did I decide to watch this at the first place, but most probably thanks to the promise of Matsushita Kouhei and Tabe-chan. See, if you know me, you know that I watch something because my favorites are there. I have been liking Tabe-chan ever since Yamada Tarou back in 2007 so you bet I would at least check the first episode of any drama that she’s in.

Matsushita Kouhei - well, let’s just say who would say no to Matsushita Kouhei?

Having Imada Mio and Kamio Fuju there are just icing on the cake.

I won’t put the synopsis for the drama because tons of other websites have done it and they do better job than I do.

The drama itself had been over since last year but the subtitles are only up to episode 7 so that’s why I labeled this post as first impression.

So what is it going to be? Yay or nay?

It’s surprisingly a yay for me. As someone who’s in the middle of their 30s, I resonate with this drama a lot. It’s not a passionate drama. It’s not a rom com (tbh I don’t really mind if there’s nothing eventually). It’s not about coming of age either.

They said that this is a slice of life type of drama, but the way I am watching it, it feels more like living your life drama. The conflicts (or should I say pebbles?) faced by the main foursome are delicate topics that you don’t even think twice when you have it on your life. And this is the beauty of this drama. It makes you pause for a bit - and then asking yourself “Hold on a second. I know that feeling.”

It’s such a beautiful drama that I feel that you should cherish each and every episode of it. I am not gonna lie, I will miss watching this drama once they are completely subtitled.

Watch it - and perhaps you would tell yourself the same thing.

And as a bonus, Fujii Kaze’s theme song for this drama is so apt

I hold the wrinkled bouquet of flowers under my arm I was looking for an eternal shine I tried to believe in us Felt us I'm going to let the flower inside me bloom I'll go look for the flower inside
