Halfway Through: Nami Uraraka ni, Meoto Biyori (2025)
Aaahhh ~
That was me every single episode because oh-my-gawd-this-is-too-cute!
And I think Japanese viewers agree with me too because Meotobiyori apparently is (was?) the highest rating spring drama this year!
There’s nothing bombastic about this drama’s plot. Nothing about whodunnit or family secret whatsoever. It’s just a young couple, inexperienced in love, suddenly getting married, and then falling in love slowly.
Isn’t that so simple?
And in that simplicity, lies the beauty. Meotobiyori is nothing groundbreaking. This plot has been overused sooo many times before — the additional recipe this time is that this happened back in 1930 (1940?) and it made the whole awkwardness between the young couple is more believable.
In a way, I can relate to this drama being the story of the first love or a puppy love of my generation. It’s so, so clear that the butterflies are coming back to my generation just by watching this drama.
During the time when social media was not around, the only way to know your boyfriend/girlfriend better is by actually meeting and talking to them — and believe me when I say that the offline interaction makes everything 100x better.
Hennyway, the chemistry between Yoshine Kyoko and Honda Kyoya is really great! I almost didn’t recognize Yoshine Kyoko there — and only after I checked her MDL credit I realized that she was in that romcom drama with Yamada Ryosuke! She looks so different here.
Honda Kyoya is new-ish. I definitely have seen his face as supporting characters here and there, and actually a bit surprised that it took a while for his first leading man role.

BUT.
If you know me at all, you know that I am also big on shipping side couple. And Meotobiyori didn’t disappoint — because their side couple is also 🔥.
Fukami is ehm a womanizer, apparently (although it’s never really shown in the drama so far). And Fumiko is a strong independent woman that refuses to let go of her job as a typist. Both don’t really believe in marriage, but of course, we are talking about love story here. And lo and behold, they were in an arranged meeting to be wed. AND THE CHEMISTRY IS 🔥

I was literally bashing my keyboard when I saw this scene 🤪
I think it’s not really apt to call this halfway through as I have watched up to episode 8 now — with 2 more to go — but who knows, they may decide to flip the table with the whole thing and just made me upset with the ending.
All I want right now is just for Fukami and Fumiko to happen. Come on, Show!
