First Impression: Ikinari Kon (2025)

Ah, sometimes a straight up romance is the way to go, right? 5 episodes in and I am pretty much hooked.

I mean, the premise of this show is so overused already - getting married while being drunk? And then playing a couple in front of others? Tell me, isn’t that like the fairy tale love story in a LOT of romantic drama out there?

Okay I’ll be honest. Some of the scenes are so cringey I could not help but covering my eyes like the famous monkey emoji — but let me just say that because it’s cringey that it’s good — does that make sense?

There is a reason that I couldn’t get into recent Korean dramas (I think my last was “Rooftop Prince”?) and that’s mainly because it is so long. With Japanese dramas, the most you got is 12 and each one of them is 46 mins long. “Ikinari Kon” here is 26 mins long. A short straight up rom com that is easy to eyes and brain? I am saying yes to all of them.

Shirota Yu is pretty much making this role easy for him. I mean.. read the premise and tell me that Shirota Yu does not fit for the lead role?

I have never watched anything from Saito Kyoko — and actually a bit surprised that she was a former Keyakizaka46? Wow. For her first leading role (I think), she is also doing a good job so far. (Spoiler alert: if you think that she’s too vanilla, you should wait for the end of episode 5 where she is a badass girl that will take abuse no more)

Oh yeah, have some pretty screenshots before I close this review abruptly.
